This is not a drill. A new Half-Life game has officially been announced, and it’ll be launching in just a few months! After waiting 13 years, fans will finally be able to jump back into the Half-Life universe once again.

Half-Life: Alyx is a single-player VR spin-off, set before Half-Life 2, launching in March 2020. This isn’t just a small dip into VR either, Half-Life: Alyx will be a fully fledged addition to the series lasting around the same length as Half-Life 2. The game will be compatible with a wide range of VR headsets including – Valve’s Index, the HTC Vive, Oculus Rift and other Windows Mixed Reality headsets.

  • Special Half-Life: Alyx-themed content for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

The game is available to pre-order on Steam right now, with 10% off for early pre-orders taking the price to £41.84 here in the UK.

The game’s requirements look to be fairly meaty too. Half-Life: Alyx will require a Core i5-7500 / Ryzen 5 1600 processor, 12GB of RAM and a GTX 1060 / RX 580 with at least 6GB VRAM.

Built on Valve’s new Source 2 engine, Half-Life: Alyx will include the tools for fans to build their own VR levels and experiences. Expect to see a whole bunch of mods and custom content coming to the game post-launch via the Steam Workshop.

It sounds like this might not be Valve’s last foray back into the Half-Life series either. Speaking to The Verge, Valve stated “Of course, we’ll have to wait and see how people react to Half-Life: Alyx once it’s out, but we’d love to continue pushing forward”. Oh boy! Must. Resist. Excitement.
